How to Find the Faith to Rest

How to Find the Faith to Rest

I’m almost to the finish line of some big projects I’ve been working on and I’m trying to take little breaks in this marathon to catch my breath and rest. And, that’s not so easy!

I know you know exactly what I mean.

But, if we don’t chill out, we’ll burn out.

Sometimes, rest feels like just another thing on our to-do list! But, if we don’t carve out time for it we will burnout from lack of it!

Burn out begins long before you smell the smoke!

In the past, by the time my spiritual smoke alarms went off, I was engulfed in the flames of exhaustion. I’m finally figuring out that rest is a choice — a choice that often requires faith.

Rest is a choice that often requires faith.

The writer of Hebrews said, “So we see that they (the Children of Israel) could not enter it (His rest) because of unbelief.” (Hebrews 3:19)

God’s people didn’t fully trust their God and it kept them from entering into their rest. And, when we, as God’s girls, don’t fully trust Him, we don’t rest either.

I’m learning that when I can’t, or won’t, rest it’s because I don’t rely fully on God. Instead, I am fully relying on me.

Rest means to trust fully in Him rather than myself.

Rest means to trust fully in Him rather than myself.

An unwillingness to rest is an act of unbelief. Does unbelief keep you from the rest God intended for you?

In the past, my burnout was rooted in the faulty belief that I had to help God accomplish His will. If I didn’t strive, then God wouldn’t succeed. It can make a girl tired!

Burnout finds its roots in the belief that I have to help God accomplish His will.

Helping God be God is a lofty responsibility that God doesn’t need our help with! God wants us to rest in Him not burn out because we are trying to be Him.

So, do you have enough faith to rest? Can you take a breath, cease striving and be still?

We must discipline ourselves to rest — emotionally, mentally, and physically.

We must discipline ourselves to rest — emotionally, mentally, and physically. To really rest means we submit our calender to God’s control and  surrender our details to His direction.

When you exercise the faith to rest in God, you will experience the freedom to receive from God.

When you exercise the faith to rest in God, you will experience the freedom to receive from God.

When you rest in Him, you will receive His strength rather than relying on your own.

Jesus says, “Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:29 NASB).

You can trust Him, my friend. He’s got this!

If you trust Him enough to rest, you may feel like something will be left undone. And, maybe so. But, if you don’t trust Him enough to rest, it will lead to your undoing.

God made time in His busy creation project to rest! So, for us to do the same is to follow His example.

When you rest in Him, you will receive His strength rather than relying on your own.

He wants us to take time to rest just like He wanted the ancient Israelites to. God even instructed His people to give their land a rest every seven years. My friend, if the dirt needs a rest so it can continue to be fruitful, so do you!

Disciplining yourself to rest is an act of good stewardship.

Question: How do you rest in Him?

Homemade herb and spice blends: how to dry herbs

Chef in disguise

I was the host of the daring cooks April challenge and I chose to challenge everyone to make their own herb and spice blend

Spice blends are a great way to spruce up  your everyday cooking, transforming dishes from regular and boring to new and interesting. Why have the same grilled chicken every time when you can have a new, mouthwatering experience with just a few pinches of spices and herbs.  Added to that, if you happen to like venturing into international cuisines, spice blends can be your ticket to making authentic meals in the comfort of your own home.

Why make it when I can buy it?

Sure! You can buy ready-made spice blends, it is easy and convenient. I used to do it all the time when I first started cooking on my own but there were problems that came with easy and convenient:

  • The store-bought blends were…

Handmade Wind Chimes ~ Outdoor DIY Projects !

This time of year has everyone out in their yard adding special touches and making lists of special projects! I’ve come across so many lovely handmade ideas for wind chimes and outdoor decor that I just had to share!!! So here is the most recent thing added to my outdoor project list!!

The below is featured on Crystalarium. They have some beautiful pieces with crystal details. The great thing about this is there will be gentle noises in the breeze and wonderful prisms of color 🙂

I really loved the below concept. Take antique pieces and attaches beads, utensils, small antiques and objects that reflect you and your likes! Beautiful and one of a kind!

I also love the utensil chimes and decorative pieces! Really best reuse of these items and so fun! The reality is that if you enjoy home projects and DIY art then these are not difficult and just really unique and fun! Also, just to buy these already complete they are pretty expensive. Try your hand at creating your own. Then time spent makes it special! If you don’t have the time though, which happens to us all, then definitely wonder in to your local craft and decor stores for some beautiful pieces already complete and ready to enjoy!

Another chime that beautifully displays unique antique pieces, or duplications of them. Love, love this one!

This really shows how you can take any okect and repurpose it for a chime. Be totally open minded. If you like the look of something upright, upside down, or sideways then make it happens. Use a steamer basket from kitchen, a metal wire basket for fruits, and the list goes on. Flip it upside down and add your attachment to hang the finished piece. Then add anything that clangs with a noise you think is pretty and add pieces that reflect your surrounding, personality, etc!

I really liked the concept of the below piece, but in my mind I would want to add children’s handprints and seal them or special sayings that my family enjoys, my kids art on each piece, or all of us painting them together and adding special details!

Here is another I loved! I just keep seeing so many beautiful ideas!!!! I really want to add this piece to my collection too!

I am working on making some of these and so are the sweet little helpers in my life!!! Will follow with a post of my little boys wind chime and mine! 🙂

I hope this sparked some ideas in your mind for some beautiful creations to add to your porch or garden space! Happy creations!!! 🙂

Thanks for visiting!!!! Share some of your beautiful creations and ideas with us!! Love seeing the ideas and special pieces!!

A Real Winner: Seared Cauliflower Steaks with Salsa Verde and Almonds

The Cutting Board Diaries

Some people collect cars, for others it is playing golf, for me, it’s barbecues. I don’t collect them per se but rather I cook with them. Their value isn’t termed by condition but in hours of use. Much like a cast iron skillet I can gauge the worth of a good smoker by the black patina that coats its inside. While many men might spend their weekends under a car, I prefer to smell like hickory rather then gasoline and motor oil. It’s how I get my kicks.

So you can imagine my excitement to I discover I won a Big Green Egg! Yea, I won. I never win anything but Debra Smith at SmithBites pulls my name from a hat of entrants and I win, I never win.  Nevertheless, it is like getting the Most Improved trophy in grade school.  I sort of treat it like that, it…
